Cops
d
The new top cop came to visit us recently, he seemed quite friendly
enough, less interested in a potential eviction and more interested in
car tax etc. They also came onto site to help the fire birgade
investigate a fire. And drug squad came onto site to look in a caravan
of someone who used to live here 2 years ago, they didnt find a single
spliff. In Matlock town new, blue uniformed community police have been
threatening to stop public drinking in the park clock tower. Other
than that we have been mostly staying out of trouble.
Birthday Party
d
In October we had our 7th birthday party, with a sucessfull weekend
event. 200 people came and got very drunk, A good time was had by all!
The neighbours moaned a bit but it was not any worse than the bikers
festival in neighbouring darley bridge the next weekend. And we think
it is good for derbyshire to have such events and make thing happen in
this sleepy little backwater.
Events
In the summer people went to some events to do stalls and raise
awareness of the camp. People went to the Northern green gathering,
earth first summer gathering, nockngorick festival, and did an action
at the climate camp at drax power station. As well as going to help
other protest camps.
old eviction threat
In 2004 stancliffe stone got an eviction order against us. In
response 200 people came and sucessfully defended the camp, building
defences and baracades. The cost of eviction & the bad publicity
helped stop it from happening. A couple of months later the high court
ruled the land use had changed from being quarry to being woodland and
they would have to get full planning permission (no chance) and do an
environmental impact assesment.
start of our camp
Back in 2000 the quarry company was all set to move onto this bit of
land and quarry it. We occupied it and totally stopped them. They
decided to wait a while longer for us to go away, but we didn't!
